Ayat and her husband Serdar are teachers and administrators in their local school. The school actually meets in an extension of their house and serves the children in their remote part of the village. They both completed their formal education in Baku, Azerbaijan with the vision of returning to their village and developing the school there. Education is a great challenge in their community because nearly every family shepherds animals in fields far away from the village itself. Kids periodically go back and forth from the fields to the village which clearly interferes with their studies.
