Children: 2 daughters and 1 son, 5 grandchildren
About the Weaver
Zalxa began weaving rugs when she was 14-years-old. It was only a few years later that she got married and began to have kids. Her son was born when she was seventeen. Her two daughters followed shortly there after. Even when her daughters were young, Zalxa began weaving rugs for their dowries, the presents they will carry with them to their future husband’s homes (even though their husband were a future dream at this point). The dowry rugs were completed when her girls were still under the age of six, and she had not woven since. Her rug for reWoven was her first rug in 20 years (like many of our weavers).
Zalxa’s husband and son work as shepherds. They take care of both their own flocks and those of others. It is very difficult work because a shepherd’s work is naturally outdoors, and are constantly exposed to the elements of nature year around. This includes harsh sunshine in the summer, and bitter cold in the winter. But it is the livelihood of their ancestors, and will likely continue for generations to come.
